The CanoScan FS4000 should do the job just fine, especially if you scan in 48-bit mode, where Dmax is higher than for 24-bits. I'd encourage you to look into Picture Window Pro for editing-- its very sophisticated curves controls could be very helpful in bringing out detail. See my tutorial on contrast masking.
