Very useful coverage of the why (theory) and how (practice) of color management using tools I am beginning to use. A PDF version of the text would be great to have; does one exist? Hi Mr. Koren: I enjoyed your site and have it bookmarked. My audio hobby is limited to restoring older equipment for best performance with highest reliability at lowest cost. I try to retain original signal circuits but devote considerable effort to power supply decoupling and voltage optimization for each tube section using passive components. Works for me and I like to think original designers would have done the same in absence of cost constraints. If you are retired I hope you are enjoying your retirement as much as I am. Thanks again for your fine web site and Best Wishes. Roy Roy Ramsey (glass807@enteract.com) Naperville, IL USA - Friday, September 03, 2004 at 02:29:35 (CDT)

I worked at ITT Advanced Electro Optical Laboratory in San Fernando, California from 1967 to 1970. There I first came into contact with MTF measurements. We purchased (discretely) and tested commercial lenses for suitabilty for night vision equipment. As I recall we selected Minolta (50mm) lenses made in Japan under a Leitz license as the best in class at the time. My immediate supervisor was a brilliant man named John Grant. Does anyone know him? Great site as everyone else has indicated. I was amazed to see all the countries that people had logged in from. I just happened to find your site from an ad(Picture Window Pro) in Digital Photo magazine. I'm just getting started with digital photography and am very interested in Outdoor settings which most of your pictures are about. We have beautiful Sunsets and Sunrises here on almost a daily basis so I'm doing a lot of experimenting to try to find the right settings as far as apeture,f-stop,iso,shutter speed, etc. so that I can start to take consistently good photographs. Hopefully one day I'll approach the quality of pictures you are taking. I haven't had time to explore your site in depth yet, but I will. Norman: Congratulations on producing a comprehensive site. An old 'graybeard', I am about to ditch my conventional darkroom (but not my cameras) and go digital at the printing end of the production line. I am starting with a clean equipment slate, so I value all your comments, reviews, and hard-earnt knowledge very much indeed. My wife is happy too - she gets a large walk-in closet (which will probably still smell like D-76 for another 10 years. Great job, Norman. Thanks! I've dabbled in photography since I fist purchased my AE-1 back in the 70's. Recently, I got bit again (bad) after buying a Canon G2. I'm completely hooked on digital photography. Or, to better describe it, digital editing. I can't tell you how much I've learned from reading you excellent site, especially the monitor and printer calibration and the background of how all of this stuff works together. Where else could I have learned why my 4 color printer wasn't good enough to reproduce all colors (it used to look OK to me). Being an EE type, I'm able to understand the frequency domain analogies into the "spacial" world. Still there are many curious questions I'd love to ask. If you need a previewer for your book, I'd be happy to contribute. Certainly, I'm not an expert in optics, photography, or FFT's, but I do enjoy creating beautiful photographs. Is your book intended to be a course text or just a general reference? I'll be happy to purchase an early copy. Thanks for contributing and assembling all of this useful information. ...bill bill samaras <bill.samaras at intel dot com> Olympia, WA USA! - Thursday, June 05, 2003 at 11:53:03 (CDT)

Norman I have just discovered your site 'accidently' I am very excited about your programme picture perfect and cant understand why I havent heard of it before!@#@# I have PS& etc etc and find it a very difficult programme to learn because even though it is powerful -= it seems that it is in Adobes intrets to make a huge industry out of encouraging all sorts of 'experts' to write books about it which all seem to say the same few things over and over written in gobbledeegook fashion it has taken me a long time to discover this and a lot of money ..so I am looking forward to trying your software and reading your tutorials and buying it. Also Photoshop ISNT photographer friendly..!! SHEESH I am glad I have vented all that :) You amy like to know I arrived here via photonet and I am NOT impressed that a few so called self proclaimed digital gurus have NEVER referred me to your site. I have found everything on this site to be very interesting. I've learned so much about the digital darkroom. About your new passion in panorama photography.... Is there a term, or could one be coined, for the vertical panorama? We already use "portrait" or "landscape" to define the orentation of *normal* prints. To me, "panorama" is strictly horizontal. We need something equally descriptive for the wonderful vertical shots that appear in the margins of your homepage each time we vist! Norm -- Spammers are harvesting email addresses from your site (unless you're selling them directly, which I doubt). I have recently begin to get spam at the address "craig-normankoren@deforest.org", which I have only ever used once -- here in this Book. You might want to obfuscate your signers' email addresses (see the user-comments section at www.slashdot.org) or hide them entirely. Sad to say, the spammers are winning by clogging open information exchange. Thanks much for building this site. I've just finished assembling the components of a fine print digital darkroom including the Epson 2200 and Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 and your site has been extremely valuable to me as I am not a digital techie by a long shot. I'm sure you know that the users manuals shipped with this equipment leave a lot to be desired. Living in the hinterlands of northeast Oregon leaves me at a disadvantage for local learning resources. I thought Photoshop Elements was a pretty good program until I read your comments about Picture Window Pro. I've now ordered that program and am looking forward to trying it. As a retired wedding photographer and a darkroom (wet) mole I enjoyed your information about the digital darkroom, scanners, etc. At this point I am beginning to move to the digital darkroom scene. Thanks again Richard L. DeMuth <demuth_r@yahoo.com> Elgin, Illinois U.S.A - Thursday, December 05, 2002 at 08:54:08 (CST)
I would say that your site(s) are the very best I have come across. You have such a wealth of valuable information that, surely it must be being used by many photographers who have recently become involved with digital photography. I applaude your hard work and diligence in providing all of this information. As a newcomer to digital photography, (I am still hanging onto film cameras and wondering when to make the plunge to buy a good digital camera).I shall visit often and LEARN! Hi Koren, Great site. You say, waiting for 24x36 mm sensors for DSLR is in the near future? Ok, but, then we will wait for the 6x6, 6x7, 4:x5" etc? Second, please write some pages (if you have the time) about film proseciing. I think, we can't forget the "old" good negative..
