Gilles, I have a simple power line noise filter-- nothing fancy-- and I've never had problems with noise.
I think I'm lucky my CanoScan works so well. Canon's quality control is in serious need of improvement.
Too many people have reported dark scans, lines and "sootiness" or noise. I hope Canon gets its act together and brings its scanner quality up to the level of its excellent cameras.
