Had (have) this problem too. I returned the scanner to Canon twice. First time the scan unit was exchanged on warranty conditions. The scanner malfunctioned soon after again. Returned it to Canon again. Canon couldn't reproduce the error. I think because they tested the scanner with slide holder and i see the error with film holder only. Now i use a workaround. But each and every time i use the scanner, i remember not to buy any expensive tools from Canon. Stefan
